BEAUTIFUL MEMORY VERSE
(Proverbs 6:6-8)

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. (KJV)

Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. (NKJV)

A Biblical Explanation for the Meaning and Purpose of Life
by Joel Hendon

Life has definite meaning and definite purpose. The Holy Bible is our source for everything pertaining to life and godliness as described in 2 Peter 1:3. Although the atheistic theory suggests that man is here simply by a series of random accidents. It takes little depth of thought to say that man just happened to be here and when he dies, he is just dead. You might expect to hear this from a 6 year old but not from those who hold doctorates in philosophy.

What then is our purpose for existence? Only a few scriptures are required to see and understand why we are here and what we are here for. Consider the beginning of time as we know it. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness." (Genesis 1:1-4). And then in the same chapter and verse 26: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

When we consider the eternal existence of an almighty God, one who lacks nothing. One who is Omniscient, meaning “one having total knowledge“ Can you imagine such? It is difficult for our finite minds to comprehend that God knows every minute thing there is to know. And it is equally as difficult to comprehend that He is Omnipotent, capable of performing any task regardless of the complexity of it or the power needed to perform it. He is Omnipresent, another difficult to understand and unique characteristic. The reason for our difficulty in understanding these attributes is simply that we cannot conceive of existence outside that of the physical being. Our minds being confined to the physical details of the brain cannot see the immensity of the mental power possible when unrestricted.

But this Almighty and All seeing Spiritual Being whose existence has been forever, at some point in this existence decided to create this universe and man. (ref. 2nd paragraph above) His revealing Himself to mankind was by miraculously speaking to man via dreams or visions, through chosen men, prophets, etc. who would declare His will. Until the fullness of time would come that he would send His son to the earth in a fleshly body to suffer for the sins of mankind. And to install a plan, which was conceived before the creation, to redeem men from their sinful state.

Why did God desire, or see fit to create this universe for man? God is a being which is the epitome of virtue, morality and love. He wanted to create physical man, instill within him a soul (spirit) who could inherit eternal life with Him, IF they would obey and serve Him under a system whereby they also had free moral agency. He wanted man to have complete faith in Him, respect and honor Him to the degree that such a superior being should be. Check these scriptures.

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before h im in love:"(Ephesians 1:4) [Notice the time this choice was made…jhh]

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." (Romans 12:1)

There are other scriptures which add to the above, however, these give the precise reason for mankind’s existence. And since God’s purpose for the universe and specifically this earth for man, with all of it’s problems, sorrow and pains, was purposely designed to offer mankind a choice for eternity. Often people will question why a God of love, compassion and caring would subject His creatures to such horrible trials. The answer is clear. God could have chosen to create beings to live without allowing them free moral agency. Place them in an environment where there was no sins possible for them, but what would this have accomplished for Him?

His desire is that man will trust Him to the extent that they will be willing to suffer whatever may come in the flesh. Consider the life of the Apostle Paul. No man is recorded to have gone through a life of hardship and trials as much as this apostle, yet he said he considered all gain.

WHEN CAN A PERSON BE BAPTIZED?
by Raymond Elliott

In this question we are not presently concerning ourselves with the ‘when’ as in learning the steps of obedience to the commands given by the Lord when one has heard the gospel of Christ and desires to give oneself to Jesus. Certainly we would all agree that a person who becomes a believer in Christ and is penitent of sins should be baptized without further delay. This is brought out by the fact that we have no promise of another opportunity. The ancient writer declared by inspiration, “Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1). We have always encouraged a person to obey the gospel when it is first learned. There is always the danger of the devil hindering one’s obedience by delaying a decision.

Our main thrust in this article is to observe that the Bible nowhere asserts that there is a specific day of the week when one is to be baptized. It is surprising to learn that some feel the only time (and day) when a person can be scripturally immersed is during a period of worship on the first day of the week. It may be that we have not made it as clear as we should in regards to the ‘when’ a person can be baptized. The only time some members witness a baptism is during worship on Sunday. Young people may therefore conclude that this is the only scriptural time for one to be immersed.

In the book of Acts we have several examples of people obeying the commandments of the gospel of Christ. The people on the day of Pentecost were baptized on the first day of the week; however, since there were about 3,000 people being immersed, we can conclude that it took several hours to accomplish this feat (Acts 2:36-41). It is not revealed on what day the people of Samaria were baptized (Acts 8:12, 13). We certainly could state that the Ethiopian nobleman was not baptized during a worship assembly since he was riding in his chariot when he learned of Jesus through the preaching of Philip (Acts 8:26-39). Lydia and her household were baptized on a Sabbath day which would be the seventh day (Saturday) of the week (Acts 16:13-15). It was sometime after midnight that the Philippian jailer and his household were baptized. Luke said that it was “the same hour of the night” (Acts 16:25, 30-34). If all the baptisms recorded in the book of Acts occurred on the first day of the week during worship, we could conclude that this would give credence to the understanding that all baptisms should be performed on that particular day of the week. But such is not the case as found in these examples. Therefore we can immerse believers anytime of the day on any day of the week. The emphasis is not on the ‘when’ with reference to the time of the day, rather it is the ‘when’ people learn the truth.

We have baptized scores of individuals during the week days, usually following a home Bible study late in the evening. It is usually the case that deep emotions are evident when people have made the decision to give their lives to Christ. There is normally a very close relationship between the teacher and student that contributes to the joy of such an experience.

In conclusion, we urge all to be baptized upon learning of Christ. Any gospel preacher would be happy to assist you regardless of the time of any day during the week. The most important thing is to do it now while the mercy of God lingers.

COOL THINGS YOU CAN DO IF YOU ARE AN ATHEIST

You can call "punctuated equilibrium" a scientific theory, then explain why scientific evidence for it cannot be found.

You can refer to books by atheists Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Dawkins as "Holy Writ".

You get to cross out the word "God" and print "Hydrogen" at Genesis 1:1.

You get to use quotation marks around the word "scientists" when writing about creationists who received their Ph.D.'s from major universities.

Bible Words Correctly Pronounced For You

MUSINGS OF JOEL

First of all, my sincere thanks to all who answered our plea for funds to help Benard Kagaga in Kenya. Benard is a faithful and strong proclaimer of God's word and is in need of our help during this crisis. And I know He is also extremely thankful.

The situation in Kenya remains poor eventhough some violence has lessened. Only now, many youths are ganged up on roadways robbing and beating travelers for subsistence. This is keeping our brethren in constant danger even though it is somewhat safer than a week or so ago. Some of the public transportation is now moving again but with security guards.

Supplies were hindered in getting into the country and getting distributed throughout, which has resulted in a tripling of costs. This plus the fact that many were only barely able to sustain themselves as it was. And, to make matters even worse, things have been so bad that those who work for their day to day food, have been unable to do that. So times are really difficult. Benard is not being supported eventhough he is "worthy of his hire".

I would like for all to remember that his support is still needed. What we need desperately is to get some commitments of contributions to make up $250. each month. This good brother accomplishes more than many preachers who are being supported while he struggles to support his family (wife, two children and two orphans). He baptized one a few days ago even during this time of chaos. I feel pangs of guilt when we sometimes treat ourselves to good steak or fish dinner. Pray for them.

PARTING SHOTS FROM JOEL
Here is a good one that is passing around
Nadine & Joel Hendon

A man with a gun goes into a bank and demands their money. Once he is given the money, he turns to a customer and asks, "Did you see me rob this bank?" the man replied, "Yes sir, I did." The robber then shot him in the temple, killing him instantly. He then turned to a couple standing next and asked the man, "Did you see me rob this bank?" The man replied, "No sir, I didn't, but my wife did."

May God bless His faithful children, wherever they are.

The Ass and his Purchaser

A man who wanted to buy an Ass went to market, and, coming across a likely-looking beast, arranged with the owner that he should be allowed to take him home on trial to see what he was like. When he reached home, he put him into his stable along with the other asses. The newcomer took a look round, and immediately went and chose a place next to the laziest and greediest beast in the stable. When the master saw this he put a halter on him at once, and led him off and handed him over to his owner again. The latter was a good deal surprised to seem him back so soon, and said, "Why, do you mean to say you have tested him already?" "I don't want to put him through any more tests," replied the other. "I could see what sort of beast he is from the companion he chose for himself."

"A man is known by the company he keeps."...Aesop
