BEAUTIFUL MEMORY VERSE (Psalm 55:6)
And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.
(KJV)
So I said, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest".

Knife Scanners Being Installed At School Gates
"Airport-style metal detectors will be installed at hundreds of school gates under sweeping measures to confront the growing problem of teenage knife crime." The Observer (Mark Townsend and Jo Revill Sunday January 20, 2008)
Some schools have already given police broad powers to seize knives but they feel that the metal detectors will be less intrusive and more acceptable to the community. This report from the United Kingdom's Observer-Guardian shows that not only the U.S. but Britain as well has severe problems with violence, especially in some neighborhood schools. This move is being made due to a rash of stabbings in the "rough" secondary schools, the latest a little thirteen year old girl was stabbed in the chest and thigh as she left school for the day, last week.
Schools will be issued the "arches" on the basis of past violent events and some larger schools will get several of the walk through detectors. It is reported that these detectors will cost the school system about £5,000 each. All children entering these particular schools will be required to pass through the scanner so as to avoid accusations that stereotypes are being targeted.
I am not writing this article to criticize Great Britain for taking this step, not in the least. They need to. My article is, rather, to question why we have arrived at such a point in civilization (?). I know…we older coots have our own remedies for the ills that are rampant in society today. But the fact of the matter is, many of the now outdated methods used back then, worked! But rest assured, the worst is yet to come. Of course there are many different things which have entered into the raising of these delinquents, yet most of them can be categorized in one large reason. The abandonment of teaching children sound Christian principles. (principle: A rule or standard, especially of good behavior: a man of principle. The collectivity of moral or ethical standards or judgments).
Tell me how much time do you feel that most people devote to training (not just telling) their children to respect others, more especially people of authority, elderly, YOU, God, the Holy Bible with it's teachings and yes, even themselves? What percentage of parents these days do you believe gather the family together each evening to have a 30 minute session of reading the Bible and discussing what was read, and why? How many people do you suspect, after reading that previous question, said, "Oh, come on now, surely your are kidding". I'm not kidding. How many of these knife carrying stabbers do you reckon are church goers? What percentage of their parents are?
Anytime I happen to get involved in a dialogue with an atheist and mention anything about the moral and ethical restraints contained in the Bible, they almost always become indignant and ask if I think they are immoral or unethical. My reply is always that, if they are not, then they have been taught biblical principles or at least influenced by them. They are not natural instincts.
Do you think that those who are being brought up today without respect for anyone, even parents, will maybe train their children to be respectful and observe moral and ethical values? Not on your life.

IS IT AN AUDITORIUM OR A SANCTUARY? by Raymond Elliott
It is not uncommon to hear a brother mention in his prayer that “we are thankful to be able to come out to God’s house and worship.” Also, you will hear from time to time a member of the church referring to that part of the building where the assembly of worship is conducted as being the ‘sanctuary’. If you were to bring someone to visit our buildings, most likely the person would refer to the place of worship as being “a beautiful sanctuary.” To some degree, most of us have been affected by Judaism or Catholicism whether we realize it or not.
The Lord God had Moses to erect the tabernacle. This portable tent of meeting was to be the center of worship until many years later when Solomon would build the temple in the city of Jerusalem. In Exodus 25:8, we read that the purpose of such a place was “that I may dwell among them.” In this verse, the whole of the tabernacle was referred to as the “sanctuary.” However, in Exodus 25:22, we learn that it was at the mercy-seat between the two cherubim, atop the Ark of the Covenant and located in the Most Holy Place that God said, “I will commune with thee.” In short, the sanctuary, whether speaking of the tabernacle as a whole or the Most Holy Place, was a dwelling place of the presence of the Almighty God.
In contrast, the place of worship in the Christian age is of no significance. Jesus taught the Samaritan woman that it would not matter where one worshiped God (whether in the mountains or in Jerusalem) as long as such was done “in spirit and truth” (John 4:20-24). Paul declared that the “Lord of heaven and earth dwells not in temples made with hands” (Acts 17:24). The Lord’s called out congregation is never a place but always a people. The church is “a spiritual house”, not a physical building, “to offer up spiritual sacrifices” (I Peter 2:5). Again, Paul wrote in I Corinthians 3:16 that “You (Christians) are a temple (sanctuary) of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you.” Therefore God’s sanctuary today is His kingdom, the church, and not where the saints meet to worship.

TODAY'S QUOTE(S)
"The main problem with such phyletic gradualism is that the fossil record provides so little (none...jhh) evidence for it. Very rarely (never...jhh) can we trace the gradual transformation of one entire species into another through a finely graded sequence of intermediary forms." (Gould, S.J. Luria, S.E. & Singer, S., A View of Life, 1981, p. 641) (They love to use the terms "very rarely", "seldom", but what they really mean, is "never"...jhh)
"Unfortunately, in the field of evolution most explanations are not good. As a matter of fact, they hardly qualify as explanations at all; they are suggestions, hunches, pipe dreams, hardly worthy of being called hypotheses."(—*Norman Macbeth, Darwin Retried (1971), p. 147.)

MUSINGS OF JOEL
There is perhaps no subject with wider disagreement, among people of the world, than modes of punishment from every angle. Many even feel that no parents (or anyone else) should use any form of corporal punishment on children. Others disagree with any group or government utilizing any form of corporal punishment on lawbreakers. And still others feel that there should be no capital or corporal punishment under any circumstances. One person cannot answer for others simply because of difference in feelings and priorities. Priorities, to this author, is the area where common sense and experience should prevail. As a firm and strong believer in the Holy Bible and it's teachings, I find it impossible to condemn any of it's precepts and I am convinced that it's methods for handling those who commit wrong, are just.
Caning is a category of punishment which has been practiced for millennia and was advocated in biblical instructions. It is a term implying what we know as a whipping or even a paddling. Proverbs 13:24 (NKJV) tells us: "He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly". Judicious discipline has always proven to be the best training for children. I realize that any type of discipline is now frowned upon by most parents. But the results are showing up in many different levels and ways. All of which seem to me to be undesirable. I still believe, when a child knows certain things are forbidden or undesirable, and it still does that, he/she should be punished. Not cruelly or harmful but in a manner which will make them very hesitant to do it again. Talking seldom does the job. And especially if the child already has learned there will be no consequences.

The Labourer and the Nightingale
A Labourer lay listening to a Nightingale's song throughout
the summer night. So pleased was he with it that the next night
he set a trap for it and captured it. "Now that I have caught
thee," he cried, "thou shalt always sing to me."
"We Nightingales never sing in a cage." said the bird.
"Then I'll eat thee." said the Labourer. "I have always heard
say that a nightingale on toast is dainty morsel."
"Nay, kill me not," said the Nightingale; "but let me free,
and I'll tell thee three things far better worth than my poor
body." The Labourer let him loose, and he flew up to a branch of
a tree and said: "Never believe a captive's promise; that's one
thing. Then again: Keep what you have. And third piece of advice
is: Sorrow not over what is lost forever." Then the song-bird
flew away...Aesop
